Characterization Surface and shape analysis
Surface and shape analysis
Photonic components come in many shapes and sizes from macroscopic lenses and microscopic waveguides to nanoscale patterns in diffractive optical elements. It is important and sometimes challenging to precisely measure surface roughnesses, linewidths, corner roundings, curvatures and shapes of such components. Here we list those services and tools that relate to the characterization of surfaces and shapes.
Characterization Surface and shape analysis
Scanning Probe Microscopy
Methods and tools that scan the surface with a small tip. Includes AFM and SNOM tools.
Characterization Surface and shape analysis
Diffractometry and scatterometry
Charaterization of surfaces based on the diffraction or scattering of light from the surface.
Characterization Surface and shape analysis
Digital holographic microscopy and interference lithography
Digital holographic microscopy (DHM) is a quantitative phase imaging technique, where both the amplitude and phase of light interacting with a sample are measured. The phase contains information on the height and refractive index variations on a sample. In the…

Machine vision & co-ordinate measuring machines
Different machine vision tools and co-ordinate measuring machines (CMM) are useful e.g. in photonics assembly quality control.
Characterization Surface and shape analysis
Mechanical surface profilometry
Measuring sample surfaces with a contact probe is fast and accurate method for most surfaces.
