Info:

COMSOL is a general-purpose simulation software for multidisciplinary simulations. It typically uses rigorous numerical methods that can be accurate, but sometimes slow, as long as the simulation grids are dense enough. COMSOL includes software modules to simulate e.g. electro-magnetic fields and waves, wave optics, mechanics and thermodynamics. Different simulation models can be combined to simulate combined effects. For example, COMSOL can calculate the mechanical stress induced by different coefficients of thermal expansion in an optical waveguide cross-section, the stress-induced birefringence distribution in the cross-section and, finally, the impact on the effective index of a propagating optical waveguide mode.
